A pool heat pump works like a reverse air conditioner — it extracts heat from the surrounding air and transfers it to your pool water. This makes it highly energy-efficient compared to gas heaters, as it moves heat rather than generating it.

What size heat pump do I need for my pool?

The right size depends on your pool's volume, your climate, and your desired water temperature. As a general guide:

• Pentair Ultratemp 110 (110,000 BTU) — ideal for pools up to ~15,000 gallons
• Pentair Ultratemp 120 (120,000 BTU) — ideal for pools up to ~20,000 gallons
• Pentair Ultratemp 140 (140,000 BTU) — ideal for pools up to ~30,000 gallons
• Pentair Ultratemp 140HC (140,000 BTU, Heat/Cool) — ideal for pools up to ~30,000 gallons with cooling capability

What is the difference between the 140 and 140HC models?

The Ultratemp 140HC has both heating and cooling capabilities, making it ideal for warmer climates where you may want to cool your pool during hot summer months. The standard Ultratemp 140 is a heat-only unit.

How energy-efficient are Pentair Ultratemp heat pumps?

Pentair Ultratemp heat pumps are among the most energy-efficient pool heaters available, with a high Coefficient of Performance (COP). For every unit of electricity used, they can produce multiple units of heat energy — significantly reducing your energy bills compared to gas heaters.

What temperature range can a pool heat pump maintain?

Pool heat pumps work best when the ambient air temperature is above 45°F (7°C). They can typically heat your pool to a comfortable 80–90°F (27–32°C) depending on conditions.

We offer free standard shipping on all orders. Express shipping is available for $99.00.

Do pool heat pumps ship via freight?

Yes — due to their size and weight, pool heat pumps typically ship via freight carrier. You will be contacted to schedule a delivery appointment. Please ensure someone is available to receive and inspect the unit upon arrival.

Do I need a professional to install a pool heat pump?

Yes. Pool heat pumps require professional installation by a licensed HVAC or pool technician. Improper installation can void the manufacturer's warranty and may cause damage or safety hazards.

What do I need for installation?

Typically, installation requires proper electrical connections (usually 240V), adequate airflow around the unit, and connection to your existing pool plumbing. Your installer will assess your specific setup.

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for unused items in original packaging. Installed or used units are not eligible for return. Please review our full Return & Refund Policy for details.

What warranty comes with Pentair Ultratemp heat pumps?

Pentair Ultratemp heat pumps come with a manufacturer's warranty provided by Pentair. Please refer to the product documentation or contact Pentair directly for specific warranty terms and claims.
